12 DU students receive Sitara Parveen award

A total of 12 meritorious students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have received ‘Professor Sitara Parveen Award’ for their outstanding academic results in BSS Honours Examination of 2015.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the awardees as the chief guest at a function held on Tuesday at RC Majumder Auditorium of the university.
The awardees are: Monira Begum, Nuzaira Tarannum, Maliha Tabassum, Tanjina Tanin, Ali Ahsan, Emran Hossain, Md. Ashraful Goni, Mehedi Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan, Md. Jahid-E-Hasan, Bappi Kumar Paul and Shamima Sultana.
Addressing the function, Prof. Arefin Siddique urged the students to play pioneering role in creating awareness against terrorism and extremism in the society.

He said young generation must equip themselves with morality, honesty, patriotism and humanitarian values.
Professor Siddique paid tribute to the memory of late Prof. Sitara Parveen and said that she was a brilliant, sincere and ideal teacher.
The VC called upon the awardees to work hard for making the society enlightened by following the ideals of Prof. Dr. Sitara Parveen.
Prof. Sitara Parveen was a daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmad and the wife of Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali. She died in a tragic road accident in the USA on June 23 in 2005.
