A total of 11 policemen have testified in court for the trial into the 2016 terrorist attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in the city’s Gulshan area.
Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal Judge Majibur Rahman recorded their statements on Tuesday.
After recording their depositions, the defense counsels cross-examined them at the court. Later, the court adjourned the trial proceedings till August 6 in the case.
So far, a total of 85 out of 211 prosecution witnesses gave depositions before the tribunal in connection with the case.
Earlier, the trial against eight militants started on November 26, last year in the much talked about case.
On July 23, the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police submitted the charge sheet accusing the eight accused in the case.
The accused are Shariful Islam Khaled, Mamunur Rashid Ripon, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Rashedul Islam alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz, Mizanur Rahman alias Baro Mizan and Hadisur Rahman Sagar. They are now in jail.
The witness police officials are Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Chawkbazar Zone Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Md Sirajul Islam, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspectors Md Shahidullah and Md Abdur Rahim, Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of Kotwali Police Station, Rangamati Sadar OC Khan Nurul Islam, CID Sub-Inspectors Md Nasiruddin, CTTC’s SI Suman Kumar Kundu and Ashraful Haque, its ASI Md Nuruzzaman, CID’s ASI Gobinda Das and Aminul Islam and its constable Manik Babu.
On July 1, 2016, armed militants stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan, opened fire and took around 40 people, including restaurant staff and guests-both locals and foreigners-hostage.
Twenty-two people, including 17 foreigners, were killed in the terror attack.
