Bogra law, order drastically slides: 11 killed in Jan, theft-snatching surge

Law and order situation in Bogra took an upsetting course of deterioration in the first month of the current year.
Criminal activities, including killings, marked an alarming rise in the district during the period.
Some 11 people, including women and children, were killed in different places across the district in January.
Alongside killings, increased numbers of incidents of theft, snatching and violent incidents were also reported in the district last month.
On January 3, a seven-year-old boy who had been abducted for ransom was brutally killed in Adamdighi upazila.
Local sources said criminals kidnapped the minor boy Zisan, a class-1 student of local Murail Primary School, and demanded Tk50 lakh as ransom from his family for his release.
Failing to realise the money, they at last killed the boy.
Also in the upazila, Swadhin, a five-year-old boy, was murdered on January 16.
On January 4, police recovered the body of a newborn from Shitlai village in Kahalu upazila.
The following day, one Shahajalal, 25, was killed as a sequel to a clash between two rival groups over a trifling matter at Nischintapur village under Shibganj upazila.
Ranjona,25, a housewife, was killed allegedly by her husband in Dhunat upazila on January 12.
In the same upazila on January 19, Asim Kumar Das, 26, was hacked to death by miscreants seven days before his marriage.
In a similar incident, a school teacher named Baki Billah, 28, was killed at Satmatha in the district town while his marriage was going to be solemnised three days later.
At the same time, Jubo League activist Abdul Majid, 30, was killed by his rival group in Saujgari area of the town following a conflict over tender.
Also in the town, police recovered the hanging body of a domestic help, Aklima Begum, from her employer’s house in Colony area on January 26.
It could not be ascertained yet whether the incident was killing or suicide.
Miscreants also stabbed a photo studio owner, Rafiqul Islam, to death over previous enmity in the district town on January 24.
Mamun, a BNP activist, was hacked to death in Sherpur upazila on January 21.
The body of Yusuf Ali, 11, son of a Malaysian expatriate, was recovered on the night of January 3 hours after his abduction.
