11 hostels to be built for visually impaired students

The government is going to build 11 more hostels, including six for the girls, for the visually impaired students with a view to ensuring education for them across the country, the Social Welfare Ministry sources said.
The Ministry and the Planning Commission sources said on Monday about the government’s plan to extend the 20 existing hostels to mitigate the accommodation crisis.
Tk 60 crore and 65 lakh will be required to complete the project by July 2019.
A proposal has been prepared in this regard by the Ministry and the Planning Commission, and it will be placed in the next Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting.
Eleven hostels, five for the boys and six for the girls will be built.
The proposed boys’ hostels are Edward Institution in Mymensingh, Singhajani Bohumukhi High School in Jamalpur, Brahmanbaria High School, Railway Colony High School in Sirajganj and Parnanduli High School in Magura.
The girls’ hostels are PST Center at Goalkhali in Khulna, Mook and Badhir High School in Sylhet, Rajbari Government Shishu Paribar in Dinajpur, Government Shishu Paribar in Kishoregonj, Government Shishu Paribar Songrais in Comilla and Speech and Hearing Impaired School in Faridpur.
Acting Member of Socio Economic Infrastructure Division of Planning Commission Ziaul Islam said, there is no hostel for the visually impaired girls students. This is for the first time that the government is going to build few hostels for them.
He hoped that the visually impaired girls students could be enthusiastic to learn more, staying in the hostels.
There are 2, 5,854 visually impaired students in the country. Hostels for visually impaired so far have been built in 27 districts out of 64. The coordinated education started in 1998. Another 37 hostels in 37 districts are now under construction. But surprisingly no hostel was built for the girls.
