The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive seized at least 7.5 tonnes of jatka (hilsha fry under 23 cm) in the city’s Karwan Bazar Kitchen Market on Tuesday morning.
The elite force members also detained 11 fish traders in this connection.
The detained businessmen were fined Tk 5,000 each for selling in the market. The Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman passed the order by conducting a mobile court.
The RAB-2 Operation Officer Maruf Ahmed said that a team of force led by Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman, conducted a drive following information in the market around 8:30am.
They found at least 7.5 tonnes of jatka and seized
the jatka, the RAB man said.
The fishes were brought to the wholesale market from different southern districts of the country, he said.
Later, the seized fishes were distributed to nearby slums and orphanages, the RAB official added.
