11 black spots erected in Rangpur to reduce accidents

Black spots were being erected in eleven accident prone spots on the highways of Rangpur region to reduce the rate of road accident.
Roads and Highways Department [RHD], Rangpur has been implementing the project. Experts opined that road accidents will reduce on the highways after completion of the black spots.
According to the statistics of a non-government organization, about seventy people were killed in road accidents on different highways of the region. The number of accidents has been increasing day by day. Roads, Bridge and Communication Ministry has taken measures to implement black spot projects on the highways across the country to reduce the road accidents. As part of the program, eleven accident prone spots were identified on the highways passing through four upazillas of the district. The spots were – medical intersection,
Ekorcholi , Taragonj and Chiklirbazar on Rangpur – Dinajpur highway, modern intersection, Damdama, Mithapukur gorer mat, Shatibari, Borodarogah-Pirgonj, Ladighi and Pirgonj on Rangpur- Dhaka Highway.
Roads and Highways department, Rangpur has been implementing the project at the cost of Tk 16. 40 cores. On last May, 07, Minister for Roads, Bridge division and Communication Ministry, Obaidul Kader formally inaugurated the project works. Meanwhile, around fifty percent of the project works have been completed.
Executive Engineer, RHD, Rangpur, Dr Abdullah Al- Mamun said, it was a national issue.
The project work was going on fast and supposed to be completed by 30 March, 2015. About fifty percent of the works werecompleted. The rest of the work would be finished by December. Thenumber of road accident on the highways will be reduced after completion of the project, he hoped.
