Staff Reporter :
At least 107 people have been killed in cross fire in nine months (January to September) this year by the law enforcement agencies, according to Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR).
Among the incidents, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) killed 18, Police 87 and Joint Forces 2, the BSEHR said, adding 33 people also died while in police custody and in jail for different other reasons.
Chairman of BSEHR Advocate Sigma Huda while briefing the issue in the city on Monday said the cross fire incidents are increasing in the country day by day, which is alarming and a matter of deep concern.
“Such incidents create adverse impact on public perception. A criminal has also right to be judged under the country’s law,” She said.
Executive Director of BSEHR Mostafa Sohel Ahmed said deaths in cross-fire and in other incidents are often criticized in the country as well as globally.
“The government should take immediate action to uphold the country’s image and safeguard issues of human rights,” he mentioned.
