1,050 kg jatka seized in Chandpur

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 1,050 kg jatka (hilsha fry less than 10 inch in length) from two passenger launches in the Meghna river in Chandpur early Friday and sentenced two fishermen to one year’s jail each in this connection.
Sources at the Coast Guard headquarters said, an operational team of the Coast Guard’s Chandpur Station conducted an anti-jatka drive in the middle of the river in Chandpur Sadar at around 2:00 am and raided two passenger launches – ‘MV Tipu-4’ and ‘MV Morning Sun’. During the drive, they seized 1,050 kg jatka and detained two fishermen, identified as Mofiz, 26, and Belel, 27, in this connection.
Later, the mobile court of Executive Megistrate M Sadib sentenced the two fishermen to one year’s imprisonment each.
