103rd birth anniv of journalist Obaidul Huq today

Today (October 31st) is the 103rd birth anniversary of veteran journalist Obaidul Huq.
Widely respected elderly journalist Obaidul Huq became the Editor of The Bangladesh Observer after the Liberation in 1971. He left the paper when it was handed over to its owner in 1984.
Later he became a columnist and regular contributor to different dailies including vernacular newspapers.
He was also the Chairman of the Press Institute and Chairman of the Trustee Board of now defunct Dainik Bangla and Bangladesh Times for some time.
He was honored with a number of national and international awards. He got the highest national award, the ” Ekushe Padak” in 1983. He was also recognised with Bangla Academy Award in 1964 for Drama writing. He was decorated with UNICEF Gold Medal for journalism, Abdus Salam Gold Medal, Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Gold Medal, Kazi Mahbubullah and Begum Zebunnnessa Trust Gold Medal.
Obaidul Huq died on October 13, 2007 at the age of 96 years.
