‘10,000 nurses to be given posting within one week’

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Sunday said newly recruited 10,000 nurses will be given posting in different public hospitals and health complexes within one week to remove manpower shortage problem in the health sector.
“We have completed the recruitment process of 10,000 nurses …. Now we are working to give them posting in different public hospitals to ensure better healthcare facilities,” he told a dissemination function of Bangladesh Health Workforce Strategy-2015 at a city hotel.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malik, Directorate General of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abdul Kalam Azad, Directorate General of Directorate General of Family Planning Mohammad Wahid Hossain, WHO Representative to Bangladesh Dr N. Paranietharan, among others, addressed the function with Health and Family Welfare Secretary Md Sirazul Islam in the chair.
Nasim said, “Health workforce is critical but vital component of the
health system. We all are looking for quality health workforce, who can
produce quality health service and health system.”
Formulation of “Bangladesh Health Workforce Strategy 2015” is a
foundation stone in this regard as the strategy is envisioning a quality
workforce to provide quality healthcare services.”
Referring to manpower shortages in health sector, Nasim urged officials
concerned to ease the recruitment system to appoint healthcare professionals
within a short time.
Zahid said, “We have to recruit quality workforce for the health sector
to improve the overall healthcare system. Without competent manpower, we
cannot achieve the targets of sustainable development goals (SDGs).”
Bangladesh has made a remarkable progress in different key indicators of
health, he said adding quality manpower is needed to continue this trend of
success in the health sector.
