Unidentified criminals looted gold ornaments weighing 100 tola from a jewellery shop in Bagerhat early Tuesday.
The miscreants broke into Rupali Jewellers at Dreamland Super Market in Bagerhat town, and took away the gold that was on display and in the locker.
Shop owner Bholanath Das said that he closed his shop around 9:30 pm last night and returned home, and he found the door broken in the morning. He added, “When I entered the shop, there were no gold ornaments in the locker and display.”
The estimated value is approximately Tk 70 lakh, said Shovan Das, son of the shop owner.
Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Roy said, “I have taken the theft very seriously. Several of our teams have already visited the spot.”
He hoped that they will be able to identify the thieves from CCTV footage.
