100 killed in road crashes during Eid holidays

Around 100 people have been killed and several hundred injured in road accidents in 28 districts of the country in the past one-week ahead and after the Eid vacation.
In the latest incident, five people were killed and 14 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on the Khulna-Satkhira road on Thursday.
A Khulna-bound bus from Paikgaccha fell into a ditch at Bortia in Dumuria around 12:45 pm when its driver lost control over the steering, police said.
All the five people died on the spot. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Habil Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station, said on information, the police recovered the bodies and sent those to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The road crashes were reportedly took place in Khulna, Nilphamari Chattogram, Sylhet, Chandpur, Habiganj, Jhenaidah, Gopalganj, Cox’s Bazar, Noakhali, Cumilla, Tangail, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Dhaka, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Thakurgaon, Naogaon, Magura, Mymensingh, Sirajganj, Shariatpur, satkhira,Narayanganj, Barishal, Bhola and Narsingdi, media reports said.
In Mymensingh, a microbus collided head-on with a CNG-powered auto rickshaw in Sotrashia area of Muktagachha Upazila, resulting in the deaths of three people and injury to three others on Wednesday.
The accident happened around 7:00 am.
The deceased could not be identified yet. However, there are a man and a woman among the deceased, Ali Ahmmad Molla, Officer-in-Charge of Muktagachha Police Station, said.
In Noakhali, three people were killed and two others injured as an auto-rickshaw and passenger bus collided on Noakhali-Comilla highway in Chashirhat Bazar area of Noakhali on June 17 (Sunday).
The identities of the deceased also could not be known till filling the report.
However, angry mob vandalized vehicles and blocked the highway following the accident.
Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nasimuddin told the media that, on information, police rushed to the scene to deescalate the situation.
In Nilphamari, at least 11 people, including nine picnickers, were killed and 18 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a picnic pick-up at Dhalagachhi in Saidpur of Nilphamari on June 17 (Sunday) night.
Ten more people, including two schoolteachers, were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram, Sylhet, Chandpur, Habiganj and Jhenidah districts on Friday and Saturday.
A total of eight people were reportedly killed by road and train accidents in Tangail, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Rangpur and Naogaon districts on June 13 (Wednesday).
