10 people sued for Rahat killing in Sylhet

A case has been filed in connection with the murder of Ariful Islam Rahat at Dakshin Surma Government College campus in Sylhet. Rahat uncle Shafiqul Islam filed the case on Friday night. Case No. 21/22/10/21. 10 people have been accused in the case.
Dakshin Surma Police Station OC Kamrul Hasan Talukder confirmed the matter.
“Rahat’s uncle said. 3 people have been named in the case and 5-6 people have been accused as unknown. An operation is underway to arrest the accused. The OC did not agree to reveal the names of the accused.
A source confirmed that the main accused in the case is Samsuddoha Saadi, 20, son of Abdus Salam of Silam Paschimpara in Moglabazar police station area of South Surma. The other two accused are Tanvir Ahmed, 19, son of Jamal Miah of the same area and Sunny of Ahmedpur in South Surma.
Among them Saadi is a BCL activist. He said to be associated with the Kashmir group of the Sylhet City Chhatra League. He was a student of Dakshin Surma College for the year 2018-19. He was also expelled once while studying in college.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Ariful Islam Rahat, 18, left home around 11:30 pm on Thursday to go for private study. At that time his cousin Rafi was on a motorcycle with him. On the way, Rahat left his cousin at the college gate and went to the college campus to meet a friend. Later, at around 12:15 pm, Saadi and Tanvir came from behind on a silver Pulsar motorcycle 20-25 yards from the main gate of the college and ran away after stabbing Rahat at random. Rahat was later rescued and taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Rahat is the son of Surman Ali of Old Tetli area of Dakshin Surma Upazila and a class XII science student of Dakshin Surma College. In this incident, the authorities issued a notice to stop teaching in the college for 3 days.
