The 10 lakh saplings plantation programme on the occasion of the Mujib Borsha was opened yesterday through out the country.
Colonel (Rtd) Zahid Faruq Shamim, MP and water Resources State Minister opened the plantation programme in Barishal Sadar upazila’s Shaistabad Union’s Charaicha village. The mango sapling was planted.
A M Aminul Huq, Director General of Water Resources Board, Mahmudul Islam, Additional Secretary of Water Resources Ministry, Barishal Deputy Commissioner S.M. Ajior Rahman, BMP Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Khairul Alam, Executive Engineer Dipak Ranjan Das of Barishal Water Development Board and other officials were present on the occasion. AL leader Mahmudul Huq Khan Mamun and other local leader delivered lectures on the necessity of both trees and water.
Chief guest Colonel (Rtd) Zahid Faruque Shamim said that the government had planned to plant more than one crore saplings with the view to meet the adverse impact of the climate change and to build forestation and green belt in the 25 percent area of the country.
Part of it, the 10 lakh saplings plantation programme has been initiated by the Water Resources Ministry on Friday. To protect life and property of the people, about 1000 canals are being dug in 64 districts. About 70pc work was completed, said the Minister.
