10 killed in road crashes

Staff Reporter :At least ten people were killed and seven others received injuries in separate road accidents in Comilla, Lakmipur and Munshiganj districts on Monday. In Comilla, seven persons have been killed and seven others were injured when a truck turned turtle on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Nandanpur area under sadar upazila in the morning, Officer-in Charge of Maynamoti Highway police Abdul Awal said. Four victims were identified as Shafiqul Islam, 37, son of Bhola Sheikh, Shahin,18, son of Yunus Ali, Jahidul Islam, 40, son of Abdul Wahab and Fazlu Mia, 36, son of Khalil Mia, the police official said. Of the seven deceased, four were agro workers, two were fish traders in professions and identity of one could not be ascertained immediately, the OC added. Four of the injured were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital while three to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. The OC said, “A tin-laden Dhaka-bound truck turned turtle when its driver lost control over the steering in the morning. Six of them died on the spot. The truck was carrying some passengers along with the goods.”All of them hailed from Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district, he said, adding that the bodies had been sent to the comilla Medical college and Hospital. In Laxmiipur, a man was killed as a covered-van rammed into him in Chandraganj area of the district on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Kabbirul Islam, 34. In Munshiganj, two motorcyclists were killed when a sand-laden truck rammed them in Gazaria upazila town. The victims were identified as Rubel Hasan, 23, and Moniruzzaman, 25.
