UNB, Kushtia :At least 10 houses were set ablaze and 10 more vandalised following death of one person in a fierce clash between two factions of the local unit of Awami League at Poradah village in Mirpur upazila on Friday evening.Kazi Jalal, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said a clash took place between the supporters of Poradah union unit Awami League president Mosharraf Hossain and Mirpur upazila unit Juba League joint general secretary Asaduzzaman Parvez over establishing supremacy in the area in the evening, leaving six people from both sides injured.The injured were taken to Kushtia General Hospital where Nurul Islam, supporter of Mosharraf group, succumbed to his injures at about 8:00 pm.As the news spread, the Mosharraf’s followers set fire to 10 houses and also vandalised 10 more houses of the supporters of Parvez at night.On information, fire fighting units from local fire station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.Pralay Chisim, superintendent of police, Kushtia, said police arrested two people-Rintu and Rocky-in connection with the killing at night. A tense situation was prevailing in the area. Additional police members have been deployed to avert further trouble.
