Detective Branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police on early Wednesday arrested 10 persons including 5 females from different areas of Kotawali and Kawnia police stations of the city for collecting money by cheating and blackmailing trapping in love proposals.
The arrested ten persons are s Zakir Hossain,38, Mamun Boyati,34,Selim Haoladar,45, Makbul Hossain, 35, Arifur Rahman Talukdar, 30, Mrs.Liza Bugum,25, Mrs.Kushi Begum,40,Mrs. Manjuara Begum Moni,40, Mrs. Asha Akhtar, 20, and Miss. Farzana Aktar Jhumur, 25, honours student of Barishal Government BM College.
Zulfiqar Haidar, deputy commissioner (city special branch) holding at press conference at BMP office in Amtala area of the city on Wednesday noon disclosed the facts in presence of Jahangir Hossain Mallik, deputy commissioner(DB BMP) and other officials and media persons.
In the press conference it was revealed that B M College student Jhumur, resident of student mess Dream House, creating love relationship over mobile phone called her lover Sohel Al Mahsud, a contractor and resident of Munshir Garage area of the city to Government Barishal College campus for dating on Tuesday.
Then she took Mahsud for passing time in intimate condition to the house of one of her relative at noon.
There she forcibly undressing Mahsud threatened that she will accuse him for attempting rape her.
Then associates of Jhumur identifying themselves as members of DB police entering inside that house threatened Mahsud to arrest of to pay Tk.20 thousand.
Tk. 9,500 were collected in cash from Mahsud and later more Tk.10 thousand were collected over bkash mobile money transfer and released Mahsud.
After release from the gang Mahsud informed the matter to law enforcers and police led by Inspector Sagir Hossain and Sub Inspector Mohiuddin starting night long operation arrested the aforesaid 10 from different areas of Kotwali and Kawnia police stations of the city.
Mahsud as complainant lodged a case against the arrestees with Kotwali police station and the arrestees sent to jail after producing before the court on Wednesday afternoon, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer in charge of DB BMP.
