Members of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) rescued ten fishermen from Karamjol area inside the Sundarbans on Sunday night.
The rescued fishermen were abducted on August 13 by a forest robber gang named ‘Sagor Bahini’, says a press release sent by Rab-6, signed by company commander Lt. A M M Zahidul Kabir.
According to the press release, acting on secret information, a special team of Rab-6, led by Deputy commander Major Md. Suruj Mia conducted a drive at Karomjol area inside the Sundarbans as the Rab members came to learn that a forest robber gang along with their chief Sagor abducted ten fishermen. Sensing the presence of Rab members, the robber gang opened fire targeting them. Rab members also fired to retaliate them. At one stage, the forest robbers fled away. There after, ten fishermen were rescued. Four trawlers were also recovered at that time which were handed over to the camp in charge of forest camp.
No casualty occurred during the gun battle, the press release added.
