Milton murder case: 1 to die, another gets life term

The Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka yesterday (Wednesday) awarded death sentence to a fugitive convict and life imprisonment to another in the Milton Barua murder case.
The condemned convict Alam alias Afsar is on run while the life term awarded Rubel was present in the court room.
Judge Rezaul Islam of the court pronounced the verdict in presence of Rubel. Of the 16 witnesses, the court recorded the depositions of 12 and gave his verdict examining the record and depositions of the witnesses. The court sent Rubel to the prison after declaring the verdict.
The case statement says, on October 23 in 2011, Milton and his friend Raihan were injured critically as miscreants chopped them on the Baily Road adjacent to Officers’ Club while they were returning home by a motorbike. Milton died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital at 11.30 pm.
Milton’s father Protap Barua filed the murder case with Ramna Police Station on October 24. On October 27, Rubel made confessional statement to the court admitting his involvement in the murder.
On January 3 in 2012, Sub-Inspector Najmul Islam of Ramna Police Station submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court.
