1 killed, many others hurt in gas cylinder blast in Gazipur

An old man was burnt to death and several others, including a child, were critically injured in a fire incident following a gas cylinder blast at a house in Gazipur city last night.
The deceased, Sabed Miah, 70, was a local vegetable dealer and resident of a colony in Dakhkhinpara area of the city.
According to local people and relatives, the fire broke out at the kitchen of a house after a gas cylinder went off around 9:30pm  
on Thursday and the flame engulfed other adjacent rooms immediately.
Sabed Miah died on the spot while the four others received serious burn injuries, they said.
Akhteruzzaman, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service Station, told the media that after getting the news, two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after an hour of frantic efforts with the help of local people.
The firefighters also rescued the injured people and took them to the local hospital, he said, adding that the injured child, Shimul, was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated.
