A man was hacked to death and five others injured following a clash between the people of two villages of Kaliganj Upazila in Jhenaidah on Tuesday midnight . At least five persons sustained injury during the time.
The deceased was identified as Bipul Mandal, 24, son of Fazlu Mandal of Manaharpur village of the upazila.
Kaliganj police station officer in charge Aminul Islam said, there was an enmity between incumbent union parishad member of Simla Rokanpur village Liton, belongs to Pukuria village and defeated member candidate Bazlu Mandal of Manbaharpur village following domination in the locality.
Both the groups faced each other group with dhal, falla, stick and other leathal and sharp weapons at about 12.00 PM leaving Bipul Mandal dead and five others injured.
Killer Liton and his associates managed to flee the area immediate after the incident.
The police sent the body to Jhenaidah general hospital morgue for post mortem examination and preparing for filing case with the police station. Additional police forces were deployed to avoid further tense, the police said.
