Customs Intelligence officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport arrested a man along with 520 grams of gold worth about Tk 25 lakh on Friday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Faisal Ahmed, 38, a passenger of Malaysian Airlines who came from Kuala Lumpur. He hailed from Munshiganj. Sources at the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate said Faisal landed at the
airport from an airlines flight at about 12:30 pm.
He was challenged while trying to pass through the green channel of the customs lunge. Later, gold was found searching his body, said an official of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.
Faisal was the member of a gold smuggling syndicate as he travelled 24 times outside country in the last several months of the current year, customs sources said after scrutinising his passport.
