Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested a man along with 20 gold bars weighting 2.5 kilograms on Putkhali border in Sharsha upazila on Tuesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Shah Alam, son of Yakub Ali of Khoshi village of the upazila.
Lieutenant Colonel Mostafizur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB 23 battalion, said being tipped off about a consignment of gold going to India through the border, a patrol team of BGB conducted a drive in Bottala area and arrested Shah Alam.
Later, 20 gold bars were recovered from his body. He was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was also filed in this connection.
