A court here on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for killing an Awami League leader of Jhikargachha upazila in 2000.
The court also fined the convict, Ali Ahemmed, son of Mosharraf Hossain, a resident of Ganganandopur village of the upazila, Tk10,000, in default, to suffer six months more imprisonment. According to the prosecution, locals spotted the body of Abdul Jalil, also then chairman of Ganganandopur union parishad, lying in a crop field of one Bijoy Chowkider in Rishipara of the upazila on July 29, 2000.
