Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Sunday said 1.5 million new skilled manpower will be developed by 2023 to boost up country’s export.
“There is no alternative to developing skilled manpower in export oriented sector for a lift,” he said at a project launching ceremony in a city hotel Saturday night, said a press release.
He said the government with the financial cooperation of International Development Association (IDA), an arm of World Bank, launched the “Export Competitiveness for Jobs” project.
IDA will provide $ 100 million to the project while the government will contribute $ 19.12 million to complete the project by 2023.
“The generation of the desired skilled manpower by the project would help to increase export earnings by $ 5 billion,” said the commerce minister.
He said the government in the Seventh Five-Year Plan has put concentration on export oriented sector and market.
In last fiscal, Bangladesh’s export earning was $ 37.5 billion including service sectors and it is expected to rise to $ 60 billion by 2021.
