The visiting Zimbabwe Cricket team scored 228 for the loss of six wickets in their first innings against hosts Bangladesh Cricket team on the first day of the lone Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Promising pacer Abu Jayed gave his team early breakthrough as opener Kevin Kasuza (2) caught at the gully by Nayeem Hasan off Abu Jayed when the African side’s score was just seven.
Then Prince Masvaure and Craig Ervine mended the innings contributing together 111 runs for the second wicket partnership before Masvaure was caught & bowled by Nayeem Hasan when the tourists’ total was 118 for the loss of two wickets.
Masvaure knocked a painstaking 64. He hit nine fours in his 152-ball innings.
Right-arm spinner Nayyem Hasan bowled out Brendan Taylor for just 10 runs when Zimbabwe’s score was 134 for the loss of three wickets.
After Taylor’s removal, Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza added together 40 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Sikandar Raza (18) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Nayeem Hasan when Zimbabwe’s total was 174 for the loss of four wickets.
Ervine hit a captain’s knock of 107. His 227-ball innings was belted with 13 fours. It was Ervine’s third century in Test cricket.
After Raza’s dismissal, Abu Jayed trapped leg before wicket Timycen Maruma when the visitors’ score was 199 for the loss of five wickets.
Nayeem Hasan struck again as Ervine was cleanly bowled out by him when Zimbabwe’s total was 226 for the loss of six wickets.
Regis Chakabva was on nine, while Donald Tripano was on naught before the bails were drawn for the first day.
Right-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan was the day’s most successful bowler. He captured four wickets at the cost of 68 runs.
Promising right-arm pacer Abu Jayed bagged two wickets instead of 51 runs.
