Bangladesh scored 143 in their first innings against Zimbabwe on the second day of the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Sunday.
Earlier, Zimbabwe made 282 in the first innings on the second day.
Later, Zimbabwe were at the stumps at one for the loss of none.
Bangladesh trailed by 140 runs.
Zimbabwe resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 236 for the loss of five wickets but the tourists could able to add more 46 runs on the second day.
It was left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who played the key role to mop up Zimbabwe’s first innings. Taijul Islam completed his superb spell as 39.3-7-108-6.
Peter Moor and Regis Chakabva resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 37 and 20 runs respectively. But Chakabva could add more eight runs as he (28) was caught at the short-leg by Nazmul Hossain Shanto off Taijul Islam when Zimbabwe’s score was 261 for the loss of six wickets.
Six-down Wellington Masakadza (4) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Taijul Islam when the visitors’ total was 268 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seven-down Brandon Mavuta (3) was trapped leg before wicket by Nazmul Islam Apu when the African side’s score was 273 for the loss of eight wickets.
After Mavuta’s dismissal, Kyle Jarvis ( 4) was caught at the first slip by Mehidy Hasan Miraz off Taijul Islam when Zimbabwe’s total was 282 for the loss of nine wickets.
Tendai Chatara (0) was caught at the silly mid-off by Liton Das off Taijul Islam when Zimbabwe’s innings came to an end.
Peter Moor remained unbeaten with 63. His 192-ball innings was ornamented with nine fours. It was Moor’s 4th Test half-century.
Bangladesh had a disastrous start as they lost early four wickets just 19 runs.
Then Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 30 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Mominul Haque ( 11) was caught by Hamilton Masakadza off Sikandar Raza when the team’s total was 49 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim was caught by Regis Chakabva off Kyle Jarvis when Bangladesh’s score was 78 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim made 31 from 54 balls featuring five fours.
After Mushfiqur’s departure, Ariful Haque and Mehidy Hasan Miraz tried to resist Zimbabwean bowling attack adding together 30 runs for the seven-wicket partnership before Miraz ( 21) was caught & bowled by Sean Williams when the hosts’ score was 108 for the loss of seven wickets.
Number-Nine batsman Taijul Islam ( 8) was caught behind by Chakabva off Sikandar Raza when the Tigers’ total was 131 for the loss of eight wickets.
Eight-down Nazmul Islam (4) was caught at the silly point by Brian Chari off Sikandar Raza when the team’s total was 143 for the loss of nine wickets.
Then Abu Jayed was run out by a joint-effort of Brendan Taylor and Tendai Chatra when Bangladesh’s innings was wrapped up.
Ariful Haque fought back making 41 (not out). He hit three fours in his 96-ball knock.
Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza grabbed three wickets each at the cost of 19 and 35 runs respectively, while Kyle Jarvis bagged a pair of wickets instead of 28 runs.
Besides, Sean Islam took one wicket for five runs.
