Zimbabwe kept their hope of playing super ten berth alive when they earned an overwhelming five wickets victory over Netherlands in their ICC World Cup T20
qualifying round second Group B match held on Wednesday at the Sylhet Stadium.
Chasing Netherlands, 140 runs, Zimbabwe reached home making 146 runs in 20 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Thanks to skipper Brendan Taylor for his captaincy knock innings and well supported by Hamilton Masakadza that helped Zimbabwe to bounce back in the winning way after they lost to Ireland by three wickets in the opening qualifying round match.
Skipper Brendan Taylor led from the front with a brilliant 49- runs off 39-ball hitting two boundaries and one over boundary while Masakadza supported him with a priceless 43 runs off 45- ball that featured three boundaries and one over boundary.
Pieter Seelaar was the pick of Netherlands bowler taking two wickets for nine runs.
Earlier, middle order batsman Tom Cooper scored a responsible unbeaten half century saw Netherlands to score a moderate total of 140 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs.
The right-handed batsman Tom Cooper played an impressive 72 runs off 58-ball with the help of nine boundaries and one over boundary, after the Zimbabwean bowers threatened early inroad taking some top orders wickets of Netherlands.
Prosper Utseya was the most successful bowler for Zimbabwe picking up two wickets for 24 runs.
Zimbabwe will play their last group B match against United Arab Emirates while Netherlands meet Ireland in their respective group B matches schedule t o be held on Mar 21 at the same venue.
