A five-wicket haul by right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and a good support by left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan powered Bangladesh to dismiss Zimbabwe for 276 in the first innings on the third day of the lone Test match at Harare Sports Club Ground in Zimbabwe on Friday.
Miraz bowled extremely well and finished his superb spell as 31-5-82-5. Shakib captured four wickets at the cost 82 runs. Taskin took one wicket for 46 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 468 in the first innings on the second day (Thursday).
Later, Bangladesh were 45/0 at stumps in their second innings.
Openers Shadman Islam and Saif Hassan were on 22 and 20 runs.
Bangladesh have now overall 237-run lead.
Zimbabwe resumed their first innings with the overnight score of 114 for the loss of one wicket.
Opener Takudzwanashe Kaitano and one-down Brendan Taylor resumed their first innings with the overnight score of 33 and 37 runs respectively.
Right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck on the second day as Taylor was caught at the square leg by substitute Yasir Ali off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s total was 176 for the loss of two wickets.
Taylor notched up a worthy 81. He hit 12 fours and a sixer in his 92-ball innings.
After Taylor’s dismissal, Kaitano and Dion Myers repaired the damage adding together 49 runs for the third wicket partnership before Myers (27) was caught at the fine leg by Miraz off Shakib Al Hasan when the hosts’ total was 225 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Timycen Maruma for naught as he was
trapped leg before wicket by left-arm spinner when the home side’s score was 228 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Roy Kai (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Taskin Ahmed when the hosts’ total was 229 for the loss of five wickets.
Opener Kaitano was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Miraz when the African side’s score was 261 for the loss of six wickets.
Kaitano knocked a sedate 87. His 311-ball innings saw nine fours.
After Kaitano’s dismissal, the Zimbabwean batsmen failed to resist superb spin attack of Bangladesh.
Miraz dismissed Donald Tiripano for two runs when the home side’s score was 263 for the loss of seven wickets and bowled out Victor Nyauchi for zero when the hosts’ total was 263 for the loss of eight wickets.
Eighth-down Blessing Muzarabani (2) was bowled out by Miraz when the African side’s score was 269 for the loss of nine wickets.
Number 11 batsman Richard Ngrava (0) was caught at the first slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Shakib Al Hasan when Zimbabwe’s first innings was concluded.
