Zillur’s death anniv observed

The first death anniversary of late President Zillur Rahman was observed on Thursday with due respect.
Awami League leaders and activists placed
wreaths at the grave of Zillur at Banani graveyard in the morning. A milad mahfil was held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on the occasion. President Abdul Hamid attended the milad.
Another milad mahfil was held at Zillur’s Gulshan residence after the Asr prayers seeking salvation of the departed soul.
On March 20 in 2013, Zillur Rahman, the country’s 19th President, died at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital at the age of 84.
He took oath of office as the President on February 12, 2009 and was the third President of Bangladesh after Bangabandhu and Ziaur Rahman to have died while in office.
Born on March 9, 1929 in a respectable Muslim family, Zillur Rahman had an active player in the watersheds in the nation’s political history – 1952 Language Movement, 1962 anti-military rule movement, 1966 Six-Point Movement, 1969 Civil Uprising and 1971 War of Independence and 1990 Anti-Autocracy Movement.
