Zia takes solo lead after 5th round

GM Ziaur Rahman of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited took solo lead in the points table of the Berger Paints National Chess with 4.5 points after the 5th round games held on Wednesday at the Media Centre of Bangladesh Olympic Association.
In the 5th round games, Zia beat FM Debaraj Chatterjee of Titas Club. Zia played with black pieces took Dutch Classical and won against Debaraj after 69 moves.
GM Enamul Hossain of Bangladesh Navy and Masum Hossain of Fire-Service & Civil Defense took joint lead with 4 points. In 5th round Enamul beat his teammate IM Minhazuddin Ahmed and Masum beat CM Mhatabuddin Ahmed Robin of Dhaka Mohammedan.
Enamul played with black pieces took Sicilian Defense and continued to Taimanov variation. Enamul sacrificed Knight at 13 moves and won against Minhaz. Masum played with white pieces against Philidor Defense of Mahtab. Mahtab missed a draw at 57 moves and finally Masum won at 65th moves.
GM Niaz Murshed of Dhaka Mohammedan beat FM Nasir Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy. Niaz played with white pieces with English Opening and won against Nasir at 35th moves.
Reigning champion GM Abdullah Al Rakib of Bangladesh Navy beat his teammate FM Aminul Islam. Rakib played with black pieces in Queens Indian system and won after 53 moves.
Uten of Access Group lost against his teammate FM Rezaul Haque. Uten who was jointly leads after 4th round, played with black pieces against Reti Opening of Reza and Uten lost at 37th moves.
Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan of Sonali Bank Sports & Recreation Club split points with CM Sohel Chowdhury of Leonine Chess Club in 5th round games.
