BSS, Chattogram :
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday described BNP’s emergence as a party with political leftovers saying,
its founder slain president Ziaur Rahman floated the platform with “political
crows”.
“Zia attracted them scattering leftovers of political power to float BNP . . . he did it the way the food leftovers attract crows,” he told newsmen after joining a Bangladesh Manobadiker Council seminar on child rights at Shilphakala academy in the port city here.
Hasan, who is also Awami League’s publicity and publication secretary, added that in the process of forming BNP, Zia actually assassinated the democracy to rehabilitate war criminals and paving ways for anti-independence forces to return to politics.
His comments came as his attention was drawn to Rizvi Ahmed’s comments about the just concluded Dhaka North City Corporation election which he called a manipulated one keeping voters away.
“He (Rizvi) made the comment in view of BNP’s shameful defeat in December 30 national elections,” Hasan said.
He said BNP did not take part in the DNCC election as they lost people support and sensed its defeat in the mayoral polls as well despite congenial atmosphere when over 32 percent voters exercised their voting rights defying bad weather.
