Zia finishes 17th position in GM Chess

Ziaur Rahman Zia of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited finished 17th in the LIC 2nd International Grandmasters Chess Tournament, organised by Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy that concluded on Tuesday in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
Zia earned 6 points out of 9 games. GM Enamul Hossain of Bangladesh Navy became 50th with 5 points, GM Mollah Abdullah Al-Rakib of Bangladesh became 66th with 41/2 points, FM Debaraj Chaterjee of Titas Club became 86th, FM Mohammed Abdul Malek of Titas Club became 87th and CM Sohel Chowdhury became 91st with 4 points each.
Jamal Uddin of Pritam-Prism of Narayanganj became 117th with 3 points, Shafiq Ahmed of Titas Club became 121st with 21/2 points, Dewan Shahidul Amin Tipu of Sonali Bank Sprots & Recreation Club became 127th with 2 points and and WIM Rani Hamid became 131st with 1.5 points.
In the 9th or last round games, Zia beat GM Sriram Jha of India, Razib drew with IM Stany G A of India, Rakib drew with Aradhya Garg of India, Sohel lost to Saravanan Krishnan of India, Debaraj beat Madhurima Shekhar of India, Malek beat Jamal, Shafiq lost to Kulkarni Vinayak of India and Rani Hamid lost to Deepthamsh Reddy of India.
A total of 131 players from 11 countries including 27 grandmasters, 4 women grandmasters and 24 International Masters participated in the event.
Indian GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly emerged champion with 7.5 points.
