Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives’ (LGRD) Minister Mohammad Tajul Islam on Saturday empathically said that there will be zero tolerance in eviction of illegal structures in both the banks of the River Karnaphuli.
“The eviction drive has not been stopped; sometimes there is a pause for strategic reason but there is no compromise in evicting illegal establishments,” the minister firmly said this while visiting the evicted sites of the River Karnaphuli on Satur afternoon.
The LGRD Minister said the rivers were affected by illegal occupation and if the rivers are affected, the country will be adversely affected, too.
“All rivers in the country including Karnaphuli, Turag, Buriganga, Meghna, Jamuna and Shitalakkhya must be freed from illegal occupation and pollution and the government is relentlessly working to bring them back to normal navigability,” the minister said, adding that the prime minister has formed.
