Zakia murder case verdict deferred

A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the verdict in the case filed in connection with murder of housewife Zakia Begum of Gopalganj to February 10.
As Judge Zakir Hossain of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 of Dhaka was on leave on Thursday, Judge-in-Charge Jesmin Ara Begum of the court passed the order deferring the date of the verdict in the case.
The accused of the case are- victim Zakia’s husband Morshedayan Nishan, Nishan’s brother Ehsan Sushan, Nishan’s brother-in-law Hasan Sheikh and Manager Anisur Rahman. Of the accused Nishan has been on the run since the beginning of the case while other accused were granted bail.
Nishan was the Gopalganj representative the Machranga Television and the editor local daily Amader Gopalganj.
Of the witnesses, 20 testified in the case. On January 13, both prosecution and the defense completed their arguments in the case when the court fixed January 27 to give the verdict. On the date, the court cancelled the bail of three accused and sent them to the jail while the prime accused Nishan was on the run.
Nishan married Zakia in 2006 and they have a child. The accused were torturing Zakia, however she was tolerating everything in the interest of her child.
The accused were claiming Taka one crore to Zakia to buy a flat for Nishan in Dhaka while the victim refused their claim. The accused were torturing Zakia as she could not fulfill their claim of dowry.
At last on February 4, 2016, at night, the accused drove Zakia from her bedroom and took her to their kitchen, where they hacked her to death inhumanly.
Later, victim’s father Jalal Uddin Mallick filed the murder case with Sadar Police Station of Gopalganj against the accused.
