The case was transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 in Dhaka in 2020, said the lawyer adding that a total of 20 witnesses have been testified so far in the case.
According to the case statement, Zakia Begum was brutally hacked to death on February 4 in 2016. Her father Jalaluddin Mallick filed a case with the Gopalganj Sadar Police Staion on the following day accusing Zakia’s husband Morshedayan Nishan, the then Gopalganj representative of Maas Ranga Television and Editor of the local daily ‘Amader Gopalganj’.
In the case statement it was alleged that Nishan along with Ahsan Sujan, Anisur Rahman and Hasan Sheikh hacked to death housewife Zakia with a sharp weapon. The main accused in the case Nishan is absconding since the incident and the other three accused are on bail.
The lawyers said Naishan and Zakia got married in 2005. Five years after their marriage Nishan demanded dowry from his wife and this started a quarrel among the couple. In continuation of that quarrel Zakia Begum was hacked to death on the night of February 4, 2016.
