In observance of the 12th founding anniversary of NTV , an special seminar on ‘Zakat and poverty Eradication’ was held at Chittagong Press Club on Wednesday .
NTv and the Chittagong Research Institute jointly organised the seminar.
Salahuddin Kashem Khan, Managing Director of AK Khan group, Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahaman, former Advisor of caretaker govt Dr. Md. Ayub Meah, Chief Executive of Centre for Zakat Management were present in it as guests of honour.
Bureau Chief of NTv , Chittagong Bureau Shamsul Hoque Hyderi gave address of welcome in the seminar.
The speakers in the seminar emphasized the need for formulating the technical formula for distribution of Zakat money to help facilitate the the formation of income generating fund of the poor groups in the society otherwise the Zakat money will be expensed for personal need of the beneficiaries.
The discussants prefer distribution of Zakat money to the social development organizations or local NGO for distribution of Zakat money with transparent and accountable measures by the local NGOs. The chief guest of the seminar Salahuddin Kashem Khan sets a example of poor group consists of 450 members in Mohara area in outskirts of Chittagong where the poor group people became self reliant through Zakat Money with creation of a number of income generating activities . The guests of Honour called upon the govt to boost up Zakat fund distribution with technical formula to avoid any misuse of the fund.
The chief guest congratulated the NTv for arranging exclusive seminar in observance of the founding anniversary of NTv. Bureau chief gave concluding speech with thanks to the participants and the guest of honours.
