The Zoynul Charukala Utsav on the occasion of 103rd birth anniversary of legendary artist Zainul Abedin was observed by Charukala Barisal at Ashwini Kumar Hall of the city on Friday with day long programmes of painting competition, discussion, exhibition on painting, folk arts and crafts, cultural function etc.
Artist Syed Enayet Hossain honoured by giving Zainul Sanmanona and reception in the programme.
Barisal Education Board chairman Prof. Zianul Huq inaugurated the programes on Friday morning and Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Barisal was chief guest of the concluding session at evening.
Among others S M Iqbal, president Barisal Sangskritik Sangathan Samannoy Parishad , Wahiduzzaman, chief executive officer Barisal City Corporation, Bijoy Krishna Dey, businessman, Prodip Kumar Ghosh, Akkas Hossain, freedom fighters, Dasgupta Ashish Kumar, Prof. Shah Sajeda, educationist, attended the programmes as special guests.
Huge number of spectators visiting and enjoying the programmes opined that Zainul was well known for his leadership qualities in organising artists and art activities in a place that had practically no recent history of institutional or professional art.
It was through the efforts of Zainul Abedin and a few of his colleagues that a tradition of Modern Art took shape in Bangladesh just within a decade.
For his artistic and visionary qualities the title of Shilpacharya has been bestowed on him was justified, they added.
The Artist Syed Enayet Hossain, who was honoured by giving Zainul Sanmanona in the festival for his life time achievement, was a native of Sujabad under greater Barisal and son of police official Syed Wazed Ali and Faizunnesa Khatun.
