Staff Reporter :Senior journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury was laid to rest at Azimpur Graveyard on Monday evening. People from all walks of life including journalists, politicians and academicians paid their last tribute to him on the premises of the National Press Club in the afternoon.His first Namaj-e-Janaza was held at Banani Mosque after Zohr prayer and 2nd on the National Press Club premises after Asr prayer. Renowned personalities like Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, PM’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Acting Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice-Chairman of BNP Shamsher Mubin Chowdhury, Joint-General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury attended the namaj-e-janaza.Earlier, in the morning, the body was brought to his Banani residence from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) mortuary. The deceased left behind his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death. He hailed from Piam village under Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj district. Zaglul Ahmed was appointed Chief Editor and Managing Director of the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) in November, 2006. He was special correspondent of the news agency for 35 years. He last served as Consulting Editor of The Financial Express. He authored a number of books, including ‘Bangladesh’s Relations with India, Myanmar and Nepal: The Impact on Citizens and Development’ and ‘Global Flashpoint: South Asia and Middle East’ apart from many write-ups on politics and foreign relations.
