After facing two recent cases over extortion, Zafrullah Chowdhury, the leader of BNP-backed professional group, has now been sued for stealing.
A case was filed against him with Ashulia Police Station on Sunday night on charges of trespassing,
theft, vandalism, damages and intimidation, according to Rizaul Haque, chief of the police station.
US expatriate Syed Selim Ahmed, a resident of Adabar Mohammedia Housing Society and the son of the late Syed Ashraf Ali, started the case.
Zafrullah and three other people-Delwar Hossain, Saiful Islam Shishir, and Abdus Salam-have also been implicated in the case.
“The complaint has been lodged and the case will be recorded after the investigation,” OC Haque told bdnews24.com.
The plaintiff mentioned in the complaint that his father purchased 72 bighas of land, the majority of which the accused had occupied.
According to the complaint, Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee Dr Zafrullah ordered the other suspects to vandalise and steal the signboard on the property.
The BNP-backed professional leader has caused controversy recently after he made an incorrect assertion on the army chief during a talk show on Somoy TV. He has been sued for ‘false, targeted and treasonous’ remarks he made about the army chief.
On Oct 15, one Mohammad Ali from Manikganj filed a case at the same police station against Zafrullah and three other people over extortion and intimidation.
Four days later, on Oct 19, another extortion case was filed by a man named Hasan Imam.
The Gono Bishwabidyalay, a private university established by Zafrullah, is situated at Savar’s Ashulia.
