Terming the Election Commission as ‘serial killer’ of the democracy, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and Trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said the commission, backed by the government, bureaucrats and police, is killing democracy, hopes and desires of countrymen one after another.
“Forty-two senior citizens have clearly shown that they have killed democracy. Not only that,
they are indulged in corruption,” said Dr Zafrullah at a programme in front of National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday.
‘Council for Cancelling Registration Process of Political Parties’ arranged the view exchange meeting.
Calling on election commissioner Mahbub Talukder to resign from his post, Dr Zafrullah said, “What is the benefit of him in holding the post of the Election Commission? To set an example, I call on Mahbub Talukder to resign. The countrymen will understand that even if there is one, there is a voice of protest.”
He further said, “Today we have to take to the street together. We once went down to the street for holding a human chain and forget all later.”
Blaming the government of controlling the Election Commission, Dr Zafrullah said, “But what we are seeing today? The government is assisting the election commission. The government is unelected one. In the darkness of night they are established by bureaucrats, police. Their theft-robbery is unique in the history of the world. There is no such history anywhere else. Everyone knows, but the Election Commission is asleep.”
