Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, who has been undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka after suffering serious injuries in a knife attack, will return to the Shahjajal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus today.
Muhammad Joynal Abedin, personal assistant of Dr Zafar Iqbal, told UNB on Tuesday that the eminent writer will return to Sylhet by a Novoair flight which is scheduled to leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in
Dhaka at 12 noon. The SUST students are ready to welcome their teacher at the Mukta Mancha where he came under the attack, said Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department of the university Saiful Islam. A young man, Foyzur Rahman, swooped on Prof Zafar Iqbal and stabbed him with a knife at the Mukta Mancha during a celebration programme, ‘Robofight,’ of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department on March 4. The renowned writer was first taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and then airlifted to the CMH in Dhaka on the same day at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On March 7, he was shifted to a cabin from the ICU as his physical condition improved.
