UNB, Dhaka :
In the wake of a tax dispute between the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus over donating earned money to two trusts, Yunus Centre on Tuesday clarified the issue.
A statement issued by the Yunus Centre said the Nobel Laureate donated almost his entire earnings of 2011-2014 assessment years amounting to Tk 77.42 crore after paying all taxes claimed by the NBR.
Of the amount, he gave away Tk 72 crore to Muhammad Yunus Trust and Tk 5 crore to Yunus Family Trust, and showed these donations while submitting income tax return.
However, the NBR argued that Tk 15.39 crore was payable to the state as tax on the donations.
