Yunus Akhand files yet another writ

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Wednesday seeking its directive upon the government to form a judicial inquiry commission to probe into the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition with the HC also seeking its order on the government to make a Special Tribunal to deal with Nusrat murder case and to take stern action against the law enforcers for their negligence in duty over the incident.
In the petition, the lawyer also prayed to the HC to direct the authorities concerned of the government to pay adequate compensation for the family members of Nusrat.
Besides, Eunus Ali requested the HC to seek the progresses of the trial proceeding of the cases filed for killing journalist couple Sagar-Runi , Tanvir Muhammad Taqi, Sohagi Jahan Tonu and Mahmuda Khanam Mitu from the authorities concerned.
Eunus Ali said the HC may hold hearing of the petition today (Thursday).
Citing from the petition, the SC lawyer said the killing of Nusrat took place due to the fault of law enforcers concerned.
“The then Officer-in-Charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station, Moazzem Hossain, has acted against the victim and therefore, the law enforcer concerned should be punished”, Eunus Ali added.
Alim (equivalent to HSC) examinee Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was set afire in Sonagazi upazila of Feni on April6, 2019, and she succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Burn and Plastic Surgery unit around 9:30 pm on April 10.
Rafi, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madras, was set afire a few minutes before her examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Sirajuddoula after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
She was immediately taken to the DMCH for better treatment where she underwent a surgery under life support on April 9.
Ten people, including the Madrasa Principal, have so far been arrested in this connection. On April 8, in a declaration, Rafi told her doctors that four students wearing burqas and hand socks set her on fire. She identified one of them as Shampa.
A case was filed accusing eight identified people, including Madrasa Principal Sirajuddoula, Lecturer of English Absar Uddin, Feni Municipality Councillor Maksudul Alam Maksud, and four unidentified ones.
On April 10, the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
