Speaker of the Jaitya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the youths should be groomed in a way which would make them inclined to both democracy and education to reap the benefits of democracy.
The Speaker said this while addressing a function on ‘CPA Youth Road Show on Parliamentary Democracy’ organized jointly by Bangladesh Parliament and CPA at North Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad here.
Dr Shirin, also Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), said the youths constitute a larger segment of population in the commonwealth countries.
She said the CPA Youth Road Show on Parliamentary Democracy programme has been designed to educate and inform the youths about the common values, parliamentary democracy, gender equality of the commonwealth countries.
The show started from Bangladesh in March this year and it (the programme] is being implemented in different countries in the world throughout the year, she said.
The programme has been arranged to inform the young learners of different educational institutions about parliamentary democracy, said Dr Shirin. She said the programme also has enabled the youths to develop their mindset on democracy through exchanging views with the lawmakers.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Dipu Moni MP and Pankaj Nath MP also spoke on the occasion.
A total of 100 students from different educations Institutions, including Holy Cross School and College, Shahid Bir Uttam Anwar Girls College, Adamji Cantonment Public School and College and Notre Dame College also took part in the programme.
