Youths urged to complete vocational training for IGA

Speakers at a function urged the beneficiary youths to complete the need based vocational training properly to have access to income generating activity (IGA) to build poverty and hunger free society.
“Vocational training on different trades like sewing machine operating and mobile servicing can help the youths significantly turn them into skilled human resources which is essential for making happy and prosperous country and its economy more vibrant”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing an inception workshop on PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security)-VET (Vocational Education and Training) project.

Acting chairman of Palashbari upazila parishad Khohinoor Akter Banu formally inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest and UNO SM Mazharul Islam was present as the special guest.
With chairman of Betkapa Union Federation Minara Khatun in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by field team leader North-VET M. Nazrul Ghani, field team leader Harunur Rashid, senior capacity building officer Qumrul Hasan Jilani, programme manager (in-charge), RDRS Bangladesh, Gaibandha unit Abdur Rashid and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
Earlier, community mobilizer of PROOFS-VET project Mahbubar Rahman presented the objective, mission and vision of the project elaborately through multimedia projector.
In the presentation, Rahman said ICCO Netherlands and RDRS Bangladesh would implement the project in Sadar, Sadullapur, Gobindaganj and Palashbari upazilas of the district till November, 2015 with the financial support of Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
A total of 250 dropped out adolescents and youths of the upazilas would be imparted training on five vocational trades-industrial sewing, mobile servicing, auto mechanics, welding and electric house wearing so that they could be engaged in IGA to be self reliant economically, he also said.
