Youths urged to become library-oriented for enlightened society

The National Library Day was observed on Saturday across the country with the theme ‘digital library is the pledge of the country’s golden jubilee’.
Marking the day, Department of Public Libraries under the Cultural Affairs Ministry including District Administration in Kishoreganj organised different programmes with a view to make people more library-oriented.
A discussion meeting was held at District Government Library Reading Hall on Saturday. ADC (General) Nazmul Islam Sarker attended as Chief Guest while District Government librarian Azizul Haque Sumon presided over.
It was addressed among others by Additional District Primary Officer (ADPO)Md.Mahabuzzaman, District CAB president Alam Sarowar Tito, District Public Library Sr.Vice President Advocate Auibe -Bin -Haider, Child Officer Taifa Hasina, Ruhul Amain and Shopon kumar Borman..
ADC Nazmul Islam Sarker said, people’s unrestricted access to public library is playing an important role in developing education, culture and social development as libraries have enormous role in forming a knowledgeable, beautiful and enlightened society.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Academics and officials at a discussion have urged youths to become library-oriented for acquiring knowledge to build an enlightened and peaceful society.
They viewed this at the discussion jointly organised by the district administration and Divisional Public Library (DPL) at its seminar room here in observance of the National Library Day on Saturday afternoon.
The day was observed aiming at highlighting the importance of libraries, books and building reading habit in the daily life of common people, especially youths and young generations, to enrich their knowledge and moral values.
DCMd. Asib Ahsan inaugurated the observance by releasing balloons with festoons as the Chief Guest.
Former Member of Parliament and Awami League central committee Member Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia presided over the discussion arranged abiding by the health directives in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moderated by Assistant Director of the Divisional Public Library Md. Abed Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City Special Branch) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Bakar Siddique addressed the discussion as guest of honour.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam and Deputy Director of the Central Library of Begum Rokeya University Abdus Samad Prodhan were present as special guests.
The speakers discussed the essence of libraries those have been playing a very important role in enhancing book reading habit of the people to enrich knowledge by removing ignorance to build a more civilised and enlightened society.
Comparing the libraries with the ocean-like treasures of knowledge, Professor Shah Alam suggested everyone, especially younger generations, to become library-oriented for building book reading habit to acquire knowledge.
“The libraries are the most enriched sources of knowledge about ancient and present societies, life, human philosophy, histories, civilisations, politics, country and the globe as a whole,”he said.
