Appreciating efforts by Bangladeshi youths, US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat has said they are building a Bangladesh that is prosperous and democratic.
“Along the way, I have met many Bangladeshi youths who have inspired me the most. They are building a Bangladesh that is prosperous and democratic,” she said in a video message released marking her one-year anniversary as the US Ambassador to Bangladesh.
January 25, 2016 marked Ambassador Bernicat’s one-year anniversary as the US envoy to Bangladesh.
Describing her activities round the year through a 1.47-minute video, the US envoy said the time has passed so quickly and it has been both professionally and personally ‘rewarding.’
“I’ve seen first-hand how our strong bilateral relationship continues to grow and have seen first-hand so many collaborations,” she said.
She mentioned that she had the opportunity to experience the richness of Bangladeshi culture, recite a Bangla poem on Victory Day and visited ‘legendary beach’ Cox’s Bazaar during her first year stay in Dhaka.
The Ambassador also briefly talked about gender equality, women’s empowerment in Bangladesh and appreciated the hardworking and hospitable people of Bangladesh. “It thoroughly touched my heart and made me feel so welcome.”
The US Ambassador said she also had the opportunity to play cricket – ‘Go Bangladesh’ – apparently to inspire Bangladeshi cricketers. “As I start my second year, I look forward to exploring new places and reaching out to you even more,” she said thanking all for their friendship and support.
