A young man was stabbed to death in Jony Tower area of Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital, on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Imran, 28.
Further details about the deceased could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge Shaker Mohammad Jubayer of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said a passenger of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was mugged by Imran and his accomplices in front of Diamond Melamine in the area at night.
Later, following a quarrel over the mugged money distribution, accomplices stabbed
Imran and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured.
Locals took the injured to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said. The body is now at hospital morgue for autopsy.
