A young man was set on fire by his former in-laws at Daulatdihi village in Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Moniruzzaman alias Rony, 28, son of Shafiur Rahman of Amabagan village.
Shafiur Rahman said his son married Parvin, daughter of Montu Mian of Daulatdihi village some 4 years back, but recently they got divorced over some family differences.
Rony had gone to Parvin’s house on Monday to talk about the post-marriage matters, but there people hired by her father swooped on him around 4pm.
At one stage, they set fire to him after pouring petrol on his body, leaving him critically burnt. Locals rescued him and he arrived at the Jessore Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.
